THE ABC's of LGBTI

brief (annotated)

Deadline: Thursday 3rd November (THE ASSESSMENT/ CRITIQUE FOR THE CREATIVE ESSAY)
  • You will be presenting your project to peers and staff and will be expected to reflect on your experience and learning. This process will be supported through group sessions and individual/group tutorials.
Creative Essay will be assessed on:
  • Research
Planning production, ideas and practical exploration.
Weighting: 30%

Main Days: Monday, Thursdays and Fridays

Produce: A Creative Essay (in the form of a website)
The website must contain:
  • A research blog
  • A (min) 90s moving image piece

The Theme: What is Contemporary Media Practice?
Appropriate methods to communicate your intention to an audience.”
“What are the possibilities and innovative, resourceful and theoretically critical in your approach to this brief.”
“Contemporary Media Practice draws upon and references the most influential works of the past, using a crossover of media.”

You must consider the mode of communication and audience
...the form of a documentary, experimental short, animation, remix…
Consider when the work was made, what the socio/economic/ political implications were when the work was made.
Discuss the multiple readings of the work and conduct background research into the issue being explored.
What does the artwork mean to you?
How would you like to communicate this concept?
Is there a more effective way that this idea can be told using contemporary media of today?
Once you have visited the Tate and chosen artwork, meet regularly with your group. Look immediately at the strengths within your group and define roles/areas of interest...

Methodology:

  1. Create a website (weebly) with a minimum of 3 pages that contains all the information and work outlined below.
  2. A short moving image project.
  3. Research
  4. Documentation of your working practice with a short evaluation.
