IDEA

Here is our developed idea of what we are going to produce. It wouldn't have any particular narrative through the visuals but a sense perspective and meaning will be introduced through the audio.

Cinematography:
The cinematography style that we could use be effective through the method of replicating the ideology of gender neutrality removing gender in the way that we film our product, showing no gender and just focus on humans and life. We would focus on parts of the body that do not depict an obvious gender - areas such as hands, ears and noses. We would also frame and compose the visuals in a way that doesn't show the gender of the subject. This could be very challenging but also if done correctly could be very rewarding. The colour scheme that we would use would be very natural, consisting of earthy tones which avoid any colours associated with gender. It could relate to the womb of a baby if we used warmer colours. We also considered using a new born baby as at such an early age it is very difficult to differentiate between genders.

Experiment with voice editing:
Through discussing the potential ideas that we could progress with we decided to experiment with some audio and editing. This is because despite the prospect of the cinematography of our piece being effective we couldn't help feel that the theme and meaning/message could be lost, causing people to think about life in general rather than the subject of gender neutrality that we are illustrating. So in order to make our message clear we felt that we needed to add another aspect to our product. By including audio and in particular dialogue/monologue we felt that we could successfully portray the subject of matter. The use of a voice discussing gender neutrality would directly associate the visuals with the audio and allow the audience to understand the point of discussion. However when thinking about what type of voice to use we believed that it wouldn't be successful to include a male/female as it would defeat the object eliminated gender and wouldn't correspond with our intentions. To avoid this issue we thought about using the audition software and edit the audio by either making it sound like a robot (having no gender) or also mixing voices together and altering E&Q to make the identify and gender unrecognisable. We also will experiment with including a heartbeat soundtrack which will add to the natural atmosphere adding to the semantic field of life and humans. We brought up the possibility of editing this heartbeat, perhaps making it irregular or even adjusting the E&Q levels to make it seem like it underwater, corresponding to the womb of a new born baby.

Projection:

Another way that we felt that we could include a different media platform to convey our message was through projection. This then adds a lot of importance to the images that we project onto the subject as they would be the main element of the product and would illustrate the message/story. We debated whether we could include images which confront gender discrimination or promote gender neutrality. Either show the negative issues and show the discrimination and struggles associated with gender or show gender less images such as new born babies. Project on the back of the subject, not showing their identity.
